Story of Mahalakshmi
Her name is Mahalakshmi alias “Maha”. Maha is associated with Rein India Foundation for last three years. I came to know about Maha through one of our beneficiaries named Shrikant. Shrikant told me about Mahalakshmi. He told madam “I know one physically challenged lady. Her name is Mahalakshmi, and she is looking for some work opportunities.” I decided to connect with maha immediately. Once after connecting to her I could understood a lot of things about her.She is a mother of two children who are teenagers. Her marriage was not a happy chapter of her life. Her husband used to drink a liquor. He never accepted any responsibility as a head of the family. Being a liquor addict he used to beat his wife and two young children. Maha initially endured his physical abuse as well as tortures; but after few years when she found out that there’s no sign of improvement in her fate, she decided to call off. She started staying separately with her two young children. She used to do small-small jobs to feed her family. Now as the children are grown up, they are realizing the sad story and courage of their mother. After a long period of struggles and humiliation Maha is recovering her way back to a normal life. On professional front also she is a warrior. She stays in Hoskote an outskirt of Bangalore city. Despite a long travelling hour, she successfully completed a training program from Margdarshi NGO. Currently she is working with Rein India Foundation, and she is the creator of many stylists yet traditional bags. We as a team always feel proud of Mrs.mahalkshmi. We are standing along with her in this beautiful and determined journey called life!!!
Story of Parvati
It was a busy morning of winters when I was getting ready for my fieldwork. I received a call and what I could listen from other side is one confident voice. That was my first ever interaction with our inmate Parvati. Parvati was looking for some employment opportunity. Due to her physical condition she was not able to travel for a job. Hence, she was looking for some job which can allow her to earn a dignified income from her house. During those days we engaged our inmates in cotton cloth bags making; later I came to know about Parvati’s talent with sewing machine. She is a hardworking and sincere lady at her work. Life was never an easy task for Parvati. When she was young kid, she lost her ability to walk due to Polio infection. She was then raised by her parents with minimal options of living. Second inning of her life was also a story of sadness and betrayal. Her husband left her in the lurch, after birth of her second daughter. Now she is literally struggling to meet both ends; but she never wants an empathy instead she is looking
for best option of livelihood. Under the project “Wings of Fire” Rein India Foundation is selling handmade cotton bags prepared by her and they are also looking after her financial needs at certain extent.
